Biography

presides over one of the collections she and Suzi present at the shows they do together

Gretchen Schields‘ collaboration with Suzi Click is the happy meeting of kindred spirits whose passions and art work mix so perfectly in creating the Artful Life that they decided to share their ideas with a larger internet audience in this Power of Adornment production.

Born in Japan, Gretchen spent a fairy tale childhood traveling the world and draws upon those experiences of exotic cultures to design her creations. Gretchen graduated from the Art Center College of Design, and was an award-winning fashion, editorial and advertising artist. She is the artist who has illustrated the covers of over 300 Folkwear Patterns for ethnic and historical costumes, and her enchanting pictures illustrated the popular children’s books created with novelist Amy Tan. This collaboration resulted in the production of The Chinese Siamese Cat, which was adapted into the Emmy Award-winning animated children’s TV series Sagwa. Gretchen now pursues her passion for decorative and ethnic art in the creation of her jewlery. She is a regular exhibitor at Laguna Beach’s celebrated summer Art Festivals. She is represented by galleries in Park City Utah, Corte Madera CA and Oakland CA and maintains an extensive year-round collection of her jewelry designs work at Forest and Ocean Gallery in Laguna Beach
